FAQ

Can you copy a cake design/ cake photo I’ve found on the internet?

Copyright prevents exact duplicates but I’m happy to create my interpretation of that design. Alternatively we can discuss why you love that design and come up with a new design bespoke for you.

What size cake do I need?

Serving will vary on how bigger portion you want to serve. Please see serving guide for how many portions you get from each cake.

What flavours do you do?

I’ve put a flavour menu together as a guide but if you don’t see what you want I’m happy to mix up something especially for you.

How far in advance should I book?

As soon as you have a date confirmed get in touch, I often get booked a few months in advance for weekend but if you have a last minute request I will always try to accommodate.

What’s the difference between fondant and buttercream?

Fondant can be modeled into a variety of shapes and coloured to super bight and bold colours, it is incredibly sweet which is popular with children and gives a smoother finish than buttercream.

Buttercream is the creamy filling found in many cakes and on top of cupcakes. It can also be used to cover celebration cakes, which many people find much more tasty than fondant, however the designs and colours are limited by comparison to fondant.

How should I store my cake?

Unless I’ve advised otherwise cakes should be stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Do store not cakes with edible prints in the fridge.

Are all the decorations edible?

Most of my decorations are completely edible, however I may occasionally use supports/ or dowels to support structure of cakes and decorations. If I do I will note on the allergen advise label.

How can I pay?

Once booked in I will e-mail over an online invoice which you will be able to pay online.

Where is collection from?

Rooksdown in Basingstoke (near Basingstoke Hospital). I’ll confirm address and collection times with you when booking.

How do I transport my cake?

I will provide a protective box for transporting and storing your cake. Hold the box at the base and don't place anything on top of the box.

When driving your cake home the safest place is to pop it in a footwell (Make sure you turn heat vents off!) or flat in the boot.

How much does a bespoke cake cost?

Prices vary according to the size, the flavours, fillings and the level of decorations. As a guide a 6" starts at £50, 8" at £65 these are for a basic covered cake with a message. Additional decorations are charged according to material cost time spent. Get in touch for an no obligation quote.

When can I collect my order?

Collection is available by appointment Wednesday-Saturday. Please drop me a message to arrange sliceoffuncakes@outlook.com

Can you cater for allergies and special diets?

Most of my bakes are vegetarian and Halal but do mention when ordering so I can double check ingredients for you.

As a busy home kitchen I have decided that I'm no longer able to offer dairy or gluten free bakes due to the risk of cross contamination.

For Egg Fee/Dairy Free/ Vegan bakes check out Kitsune Bake another lovely local bakery.

For gluten free A Basing Bakes are a totally GF kitchen also based in Basingstoke.
